ADVENTURE HOOK 011
Location:
Any urban area, large or small.
–
Situation:
Small children across the neighborhood have been woken up in the middle of the night by what they describe as “A large furry beast with big teeth.” A concerned parent wants to hire the party to suss out the beast and capture/kill it.
–
Problem:
1) Some people do not believe the children and think this is a fool’s errand
2) No one knows how the beast got into or out of the houses
3) The beast hasn’t hurt anyone yet, so no-one knows what to think of the tale, even if they believe the children
–
Tasks:
The players need to
1) Interview the parents and children to determine where the beast might be found
2) Find the beast
3) Bring back the beast or proof that it has been banished from the area
–
Things to explore:
1) Some of the children, upon questioning, will admit that they like the furry creature, and claim that it gives them gifts.
2) Some of the children want the beast as a pet and do not want it to be destroyed. Those kids will be scared to tell the PCs where the furry beasty may live, and some will claim to have lied about the existence of the beast.
3) The beast lives just outside of town in a large warren, the entrance of which is hidden in an open field.
4) The beast is a large, intelligent creature, and if they confront it, it will speak to the party and explain that: 1. it loves children, 2. it gives them sweets that it makes in its warren home, 3. it didn’t mean to scare anyone.
5) The beast travels between the houses and its warren by way of a magical road it exploits using the feywild, knowing that mortal humans cannot perceive the fey places.

By the way, my blog will be moving web-hosting services in the next week or two. I will retain the wordpress shell, so not much will change, but the bookmark you use may need to be updated. I’ll keep you posted!
